You cannot serve two masters
Tonight, I was doing my nails and for some reason, my gel polish would not dry. Now as a nail tech, I mix brands all the time but this one brand would not mesh with any other brand. I had to do my nails 4 times! Imagine the frustration. I realized by the 3rd time that although that is a clever brand move it is limiting to the user.
As I was having my worship time, the Lord said, “Could Cinderella live the life her Godmother said she could have and serve her stepmother at the same time?” Immediately, I was like, ok God, I see what you’re doing here!
There is no way Cinderella could have lived in the castle and still be a maid for the very person who said that her father filled her head with silly thoughts and dreams. This reminds me of the story about Eve when the enemy deceived her about what God had already told her. The enemy will always speak the opposite of what God has spoken as his game doesn’t change. However, it is up to you to keep moving on what God said and in Cinderella’s case her father wanted her to live a fulfilled life.
Honestly, most of us want God’s plan but want our wants too. I’ve struggled with going all in with God because of the things that I would have to give up or the friendships I may lose in transition. It’s a tug of war that I know all too well and the overwhelming anxiety to make the two worlds co-exist leaves my destiny empty and my flesh full for a moment.
I realized that in my Christian walk to have this longing for unlimited freedom in God comes with parameters. Cinderella had parameters when she went to the ball, people who wanted to lose or gain weight had parameters, and Eve had parameters. Your master can be anything that keeps you from the will of God and so you have to choose who you are willing to serve. It’s hard but easy at the same time – hard because you have free will as a human. Easy, because the One who created the world, the all-knowing, all-powerful, the one who knew you before you were put into your mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5) and who knows the plans for your life (Jeremiah 29:11) has guaranteed that it all will work together for your good. The enemy has no guarantee or evidence that he can sustain your destiny and purpose.
Sometimes leaving the ball before the clock strikes twelve gets you back into the palace by choice! Not by happenstance.
Joshua 24:15 says, “Choose this day whom you will serve. (It didn’t say fun was excluded)
